12/07/17  Learning to lead people or projects? These training courses are for you

Improving skills to manage people and projects are the focus of forthcoming training courses organised by Cambridge Network's Learning Collaboration. New and potential new managers will benefit from Transition to Management in August, while effective Project Management & Leadership is covered in early September. Sign up now to ensure your place.

Transition to Management on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 August, kindly hosted by Barclays at its Eagle Lab (7-8 Clifton Court, Cherry Hinton Road, CB1 7BN) is intended for those new to management; those with about six months' experience as a manager; high potentials who look to be promoted soon; or technical and project leads who would like to upskill on their management techniques.

The first line manager role is unique in organisations as this person is the one level who manages non-managers. This brings its own set of hurdles to overcome, and for people new to managing others there is a lot to learn.  Being a new manager can be tough; and a practical toolkit of best practice dos and don’ts will really help you to avoid mistakes, and feel more equipped to cope in the early days.

Project Management & Leadership on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September, also kindly hosted by Barclays at its Eagle Lab (7-8 Clifton Court, Cherry Hinton Road, CB1 7BN) is a two day workshop aimed at managers who lead teams and projects.

The content assumes that you have basic knowledge with some experience and understanding of project working, and that you are responsible for running at least one project. The focus is on the leadership aspects of project working, while still covering tools and techniques. The workshop will provide you with an opportunity to practise leadership skills and also enable you to identify personal learning and prepare a personal development plan.
