11/01/17  CW Celebrates a brand new look

In October 2016 CW (Cambridge Wireless) embarked on an exciting digital transformation project with award-winning creative design agency, Onespacemedia (OSM).

We are now delighted to reveal a brand new logo which we believe better reflects our mission to support our members through the curation of engaging, relevant technology events with collaboration at the forefront of everything we do.

We have celebrated over 16 years in the technology sector and many long term members will remember how the branding first looked. Since its inaugural meeting back in 2000, the network has grown to over 430 UK and International companies. Originally formed under the name ‘Cambridge 3G’, as a forum for companies to test and evaluate their applications, the ‘Cambridge Wireless’ name was created in 2004, since 3G was then at market defined stage. The CW Board was also of the opinion, over a decade ago, that the organisation should independent of cellular technology and broaden its remit. In 2013, the brand logo further evolved to ‘CW’ to reflect the fact the network had become a national/international phenomenon bringing together a diverse range of technology companies.

Over several workshops during 2016, the CW team gathered with the creative folk at OSM and the beginnings of a fresher, modern brand has now been developed: CW, Connecting the Digital World.

We see this as a reflection of the industries in which we operate and of the membership who are increasingly engaged across the broader digital space, and active within most vertical application areas and sectors.

We are also working with the OSM digital team to create a new, optimised website which is expected to be up and running in the next few weeks. In the coming months, expect to see updated event and marketing collateral. By all means, let us know what you think about the new look!

A logo reveal is always a bated-breath moment but the new look and feel has been well received by colleagues and Board members. Bob Driver, CEO of CW (Cambridge Wireless) said ‘“We wanted to let our members know in advance of the changes, and we will certainly shout about the new website when it is ready. While CW’s proud Cambridge cluster roots remain absolutely core to the identity of our network, more than half of the membership now lies beyond Cambridge, and we have connections with 14 countries. We are looking forward to building on this, through the huge contributions of the famous CW Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and through the support of CW’s flagship events such as the annual CW International Conference – which this year is moving back to Cambridge on the 7th June, along with other events such as the Discovering Start Ups competition, and the CW technical engineering conference both in October, along with the roll out of the IoTUK LP-WAN Boost programme.”

Heading up the OSM project team, Thomas Rumbold, Production Director, said ‘’It’s been a privilege to work with the CW team so far. There’s a lot to consider, plan and deliver in a project of this nature and it’s been great to build an understanding of what the team do, how they do it, and then prescribe new solutions to some of the difficult challenges they face on a daily basis. We’re extremely pleased with the progress we’ve made so far and looking forward to launching technology that’ll empower the team and inspire prospective, new and long-time members of their growing network.’’

Finally, a note to CW members: we will be rolling out communications about the website migration which will synchronise with a stronger digital marketing and social media presence, over the next few weeks.
