iOS Developer – developing apps and managing our app development process for multiple industries, working with embedded and system engineers to design, build, deploy and support iOS apps for our clients. Working principally in Swift, you will have experience working with designers and clients on UX definition while leading software implementation tasks.

Main Purpose

An opportunity to take a leading technical role in our app development and deployment, working closely with our embedded, algorithm, data, and server teams to deploy consumer and other end user facing apps, on tablet and smartphone. Working with system leads you will take responsibility for the definition, architecture, implementation and test of app components, including working with app developers from around the company and our client engineering teams.

Key skills for the role include expertise in lower level app functionality in particular Core Bluetooth, Core Data, and Core Graphics, as well as an ability to work with designers to create compelling user experiences.

  • Industrial - sensors, robotics and logistics systems for manufacturing and retail clients
  • Consumer - smart dispensing systems and connected sensor systems for personal care, food & beverage and sports & fitness brands
  • Energy - sensing & communications systems for downhole and subsea oil & gas applications and smart metering systems

You will be a member of the Software Technologies group, which offers application layer software engineering and computer science skills, from real time and embedded software for standalone or connected devices, through to server side analytics frameworks, including system design, algorithm optimisation, and digital security and authentication. The group designs groundbreaking products for clients at the heart of the ‘internet of things’.

In this role you will be responsible for :

  • Design, Implementation and Test of the app component of software systems, or the framework component of an app with a third party UI  
  • Design of interfaces between your code and hardware or remote systems
  • Delivering high quality, professional code, compliant with the client’s requirements
  • Executing project tasks to tight deadlines and rigorous quality standards within the timescales and budgets agreed with the project manager
  • Participating in meetings with clients, potentially including travel to US, Europe and/or Asia for meetings or workshops 


  • An excellent degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Experience specifying application layer protocols, between apps and server systems and also over short range wireless (e.g. BLE, NFC)
  • Experience of production quality software implementation in Swift or Objective C
  • An imaginative and inquisitive mind, eager to learn new skills and develop solutions for complex problems
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to explain and defend design and code, and present complex technical issues clearly to clients and internal teams 
  • Experience working with other disciplines (e.g. embedded, server, and design teams)

Any of the following experience would be advantageous :

  • Metal / using GPU for non-graphics tasks 
  • Android or cross platform app development experience
  • Working to regulatory standards such as ISO13485
  • Experience in low power connected devices or infrastructure and services for connected devices
  • Experience implementing low power RF protocols
