Ofcom is the communications regulator in the UK. We regulate the TV, radio and video-on-demand sectors, fixed-line telecoms, mobiles and postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. We make sure that people in the UK get the best from their communications services and are protected from scams and sharp practices, while ensuring that competition can thrive. Ofcom operates under a number of Acts of Parliament, including in particular the Communications Act 2003. Ofcom must act within the powers and duties set for it by Parliament in legislation. The Communications Act says that Ofcom’s principal duty is to further the interests of citizens and of consumers, where appropriate by promoting competition. Meeting this duty is at the heart of everything we do. Accountable to Parliament, we set and enforce regulatory rules for the sectors for which we have responsibility. We also have powers to enforce competition law in those sectors, alongside the Competition and Markets Authority.

The Broadband Wireless Association was originally formed in 1993 to promote the use of millimetre microwave for video and digital services (MMVDS). Once the licences for the 40.5 - 42.5GHz band were allocated, the BWA moved on to promote the use of firstly WiMAX and later LTE, organising (with its partner Quadritech) a series of successful conferences in Cambridge, Amsterdam and Delhi. After a dormant period it seems there are again issues around novel uses of wireless for the development of our future cities and for rural coverage. The Association is looking to enter the conversation, without duplicating the work of existing organisations, in order to link the interests of the Future/Smart/Connected Cities communities to the potential of wireless innovation. The BWA Directors, Helen Duncan and Stephen Lowe, have between them over fifty years experience of wireless innovation, and a list of more than 8,000 contacts worldwide.

AgeCurve is a Cambridge based startup with a simple thesis: Aging is agings underneath, the results of many separate processes mainly governed by changing protein functions. AgeCurve’s Gen P kit is providing deep age profiles to end users by sequencing and quantifying thousands of human proteins to assess different aspects of their ongoing biological aging process and the potential effects of age-delaying interventions. The kit also measures bacterial proteins. Based on non-invasive saliva collection, the sample is sent to our partner lab and results are delivered to our users as a native web application accessible with digital devices.
